Pentecost Sunday derives for Greek, and it means “50th day”. Fifty days after Easter Sunday we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and their followers, and the beginning of their Earthly ministry (the Church) to make disciples of all nations.
Scene #1: Watch the first video segment, it poses a great question. Many of us can get on board with Jesus and believing in a God who loves us. But why the Church? Try to answer with one word.
The early Church was persecuted. People became Catholic at great risk. The early Catholics had to really consider the claims of Jesus and count the cost of following Him in the Catholic Church. They had to ask themselves if their faith was worth dying for.
Scene #2:Watch the second video segment. The Catholic Church is the only Church that has as its founder Jesus Christ. Jesus demonstrates his plan for the Church. Can you explain the acorn analogy, and the deposit of faith?
What is your understanding of the basic hierarchy of authority in the Church? (Pope > Cardinals > Bishops > _________ > Deacons > Laity) Fill in the blanket.
The Bishop of Rome (Pope) is voted in.
The only three in the hierarchy of authority in the Church that receive the sacrament of Holy Order are: Deacon, Priest and Bishop.
Scene #3: Watch the third video segment. Did you catch the connection between Eliakim and Peter? Eliakim was not the king but a servant of the king according to the Scriptures (Isaiah 22:20-22)
What is Peter’s role when Jesus gives the keys to the kingdom over to him? Jesus gave Peter the keys to the Kingdom so that he could rule and take care of the Kingdom until Jesus returns.
Why is it so important that Christ placed authoritative figures and hierarchy into His Church? Authority is needed for unity, and unity is needed for God’s work of salvation in the world. It is important to realize a title of the pope: Servant of the Servants of God. The Papal is human, and we have had bad Popes.
What would you say to a friend that said the Pope has too much power, and power corrupts?
Scene #4: Watch the fourth video segment. The Church helps us to become the people that God has called us to be.

What can be shared about this class:
This class focused on Advent. The definition of advent means – “coming”. In the Catholic Church it means – the period leading up to Christmas. The four Sundays preceding Christmas, which is when Christian’s celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, are recognized for four virtues.
1st Week of Advent: Hope – Reminds us.. Jesus is coming. Read Bible verse 15:12-13
2nd Week of Advent: Faith – Reminds us .. to prepare the way of the Lord. Read Bible verse Luke 3:4-6
3rd Week of Advent: Joy – Reminds us.. The joy at the coming birth of Jesus. Read Bible verse Luke 2:10
4th Week of Advent: Peace – Reminds us.. “Glory to God in the highest heaven and earth, peace for those he favours.” Read Bible verse Luke 2:14.
There are four candles representing the virtues of Advent, three purple and on rose. Which week in Advent is represented by the Rose candle?
So, after this summation on Advent; What do you think are the four virtues of Advent?
Question #5: Tell me about you Advent preparations, do you have an Advent Calendar or light candles in Advent wreath, if neither think about preparing for the coming of Christ for next Christmas.
Have a wonderful and Blessed Christmas Day!
